Communication is key...

Hello again my fellow friends! After not posting for a week or so because I haven't had time(welcome to the life of a teacher), I have decided to write a new post about communication with parents. I truly believe that communication really is the key to having a lasting relationship with your students' parents. If you have been reading my posts you know that I have previously talked about communication through the "Daily Brag" idea. If you haven't had a chance to read that post, I suggest you do, it really is a useful bit of information. Another way that I continue my communication with parents is with my weekly newsletter. I utilize my newsletter to give the parents a "snapshot" as to what their child is doing in my classroom for the week. I can't seem to get a picture uploaded so I will work to see if I can get my newsletter on here somehow.

I include the following in my newsletter:

Important Information (Any news that is important and relevant to our fourth grade classroom)
Birthdays (Any student who has a birthday for the week that this newsletter is being sent out)
Weekly Spelling Words (That way the parents know what words the children are learning and hopefully it encourages the parents to work with the children on their spelling words.)
Literacy and Math Tips (These change weekly)
What We're Learning (I break everything down for the parents, what we're doing in Reading, Math, English, Science, and Social Studies)
Student of the Week (Chosen randomly so every student has a spotlight)
A few quotes that are meaningful.
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST... I have my contact information, that way if at any time a parent needs to get into contact with me, they are given my information on a weekly basis. I include the school address, my planning period, the school phone number, and my school e-mail address.

Like I said, I will try to get a picture of my newsletter on here sometime here shortly...If you don't see it soon then that means I failed at my attempt. I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful weekend!

Until next time........
